Requirements in the area of IT security (supply chain security) bind development and time resources:

- Security requirement engineering/management.
- Threat modeling.

Hugo as Static Website Generator
#

I chose Hugo because it:

Is blazing fast - pages are generated in milliseconds
Offers simple Markdown syntax - perfect for blog content
Uses Markdown files - ideal for agentic development, easily read and edited by AI agents
Has a theming system - allows easy customizations
Supports themes as Git submodules - can be cleanly integrated and maintained as separate Git submodules
Provides multilingual support - ideal for my German/English website
Requires no database - everything is static files
Has significantly less maintenance overhead than JavaScript-based websites - no constant updates of JS dependencies needed

Development with Hugo is very efficient. I write content in Markdown, and Hugo generates the complete HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

The Crisis

Europe faces critical dependencies on non-European technologies that pose security risks and compromise sovereignty. Due to structural fragmentation, Europe has fallen significantly behind the US and China. Without profound changes, Europe’s dependency on non-European technologies will be nearly complete within three years.

What is Typst?

Typst

is a markup language (description of document layout in code), which also supports styling, scripting and context
a compiler that converts markup input into output formats
A service (you can use it, you don’t have to use it), which offers functions for organizations.

Why should I use Typst?
#

Typst is simple
#

So far, the only real professional alternative to Typst was the markup language LaTeX, which was a real option. Pandoc is a LaTeX compiler often used under the Linux operating system (converts LaTeX-based input data into output formats). Using the two compilers, the properties can be compared in a practical way. Typst is much easier to learn and use compared to LaTeX. I wrote my master’s thesis in 2012 with LaTeX. If I had had a simpler alternative back then, I would have saved a lot of time and nerves.
